MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Your Mount St. Joseph University Women's Volleyball team will be headed to Berry College for the NCAA DIII regional. The Lions will join 7 other teams at Berry College fighting to keep their season alive.
The Lions enter Regionals as a #4 seed facing the #5 seed Covenant College Scots. There are 4 teams in the Lions Regional bracket that are ranked heading into the tournament. The Lions still hold their #14 ranking as Covenant ranks #24. Trinity (TX) is ranked #13 and Emory is ranked #4 by AVCA. The Lions have only faced off against one team in their bracket, the Tigers of Wittenberg. The Lions knocked off the Tigers earlier this season 3-1 and a rematch would only be possible if both squads reached the Regional final.
As a team, the Lions are having a historic season under Head Coach
John Spinney. The Lions post a 24-2 record with both losses to teams in the NCAA Tournament. The Lions earned 4 1st Team All-HCAC Selections while
John Spinney took home HCAC Coach of the Year and Freshman
Emma Sicking won HCAC Newcomer of the Year.
Here is what Coach
John Spinney had to say before heading to Berry, "We have to bounce back after a tough loss in the Conference Championship. But, our girls are not nervous. They are prepared and have played tough competition all season long. We have played 6 teams in the National Tournament and have beaten 5 of them. Our girls are prepared and look at this tournament as an opportunity to do something special."
The Lions first match is scheduled for Thursday, November 16th at 11:30am as they take on the Scots of Covenant College. Be sure to check msjlions.com and Follow us on Twitter/X @msj_lions for continued coverage of MSJ Women's Volleyball and all MSJ Athletics.
