DEFIANCE, Ohio - It would have been easy for the Mount St. Joseph Lions to have a let down on Saturday after the emotional win over #17 Transylvania on Wednesday, but coach Spinney and his 14th ranked team defeated Defiance in straight sets(25-13,25-17,25-23). The win finished off a perfect regular season in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and an outright HCAC regular season title.
The Lions were led offensively by a pair with double-digit kills, freshman
Emma Sicking led the way with 12 and a .375 hitting percentage and senior
Grace Young added 11.
Junior setter
Jasmine Butler dished out 31 assists and added 5 kills of her own. Libero
Erin Androne led the way with 11 digs and added three service aces.
As a team the Lions hit .145 while Defiance hit just .025, they had 40 kills to just 17 for the Yellow Jackets in the dominant performance.
Up next the Lions (22-1, 9-0 HCAC) will play host to the HCAC tournament next weekend, they will take on the winner of #4 Manchester vs. #5 Earlham. That match is scheduled for Wednesday and the Lions will take the court Saturday at 2:00 PM.
