TERRE HAUTE, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team moved to 2-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season with a 65-62 win over Rose-Hulman on the road on Saturday. The Lions jumped out to an early lead with some outstanding shooting from behind the three point line.
Jack Kolar got the Lions going from behind the three point line, knocking in his first of six three's in the game to get the Lions on the board.
Luke Collinsworth netted a pair of three pointer in the first half, helping them push their lead to a game-high 12 with 13:33 to play in the first half. Rose would go on a late run to cut their deficit to just five at the intermission.
The Mount maintained an early lead in the second half, leading by 11 with 14:37 to play, from that point though Rose went on a 21-2 run to push them ahead by 8 at the 7:16 mark. The mount would come all the way back to tie the score at 62 on a Kolar three with just 41 seconds to play. On their next possession Rose had a pair of shots at the rime but a missed three gave the Lions the ball back with 20 seconds to play.
The Lions then called timeout to draw up their final play. after inbounding the ball
Willard Cluxton drove to the baseline on the rightside of the court and kicked the ball to the far corner. Standing in that corner wide open was
Matthew Menninger who drilled the three as the clock hit zero to give the Lions the win!
Kolar led the way for the Lions scoring a season-high 20 points making six three pointers. Four Lions in total reached double figures, Collinsworth had 14,
Dylan Hammonds added 11 and Menninger 10.
