CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team has earned its place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) semi-finals, after a 90-68 win over Manchester on Tuesday. With this win the Lions will head to Lexington, Kentucky this weekend where they will take on Hanover College on Friday.
Four Mount players were in double-figures in the game, led by
Karlee Mills who scored a game-high 20, despite playing only 22 minutes.
Madison Drummonds (17),
Morgan Jenkins (14) and
Anyiah Murphy (12) were the other players in double-figures scoring.Â
The Lions jumped out to an early lead as Mills drilled a 3-pointer on the teams first possession. The opened the game on a 10-2 run and never looked back, never trailing in the contest. They extended their lead to 13 with 1:49 to play in the first quarter, but Manchester chipped away and the first quarter ended 23-17 in favor of the Mount. The second quarter was much of the same as the Lions advantage hovered around 10 points, eventually taking a 38-28 lead into the break.
In the opening minutes of the third quarter the Spartans looked poised to get back into the game, cutting their deficit to just four with 6:25 to play in the period. The Lions answered though, outscoring Manchester 19-11 through the rest of the quarter. The fourth quarter was much of the same as they maintained a nearly 20 point advantage the rest of the way.Â
To go along with their scoring Jenkins and Murphy each chipped in seven rebounds, which along with
Carlee Daulton tied for a game-high.Â

The Lions will head to take on the second seed in the HCAC tournament on Friday, as they will square of with Hanover in Lexington, Ky. at Transylvania.Â
