ALLIANCE, Ohio - On Saturday, March 18th your Mount St. Joseph Lions faced off against the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College in a non-conference matchup. The Lions fell behind early dropping the first two sets but came storming back taking the last three to secure the victory.
In the first set, Geneva built an early lead and held on to it. The Golden Tornadoes went ahead 14-8 and continued to put on the pressure as the Lions could not cut into the lead. After the first set Geneva was ahead 1-0 after a 25-18 set win. In the second set, Geneva again built an early lead jumping out to a 14-8 advantage. The Lions would strike back with 4 straight points pulling the score within 2. But, Geneva again never looked back from their lead taking set two 25-18.
In the third set, the Lions were fighting to stay alive. The lead switched back and forth until the Lions made their run. As the Lions trailed 6-7 they went on a 4-0 run to secure their 10-7 lead. The squads then traded points until Geneva pulled within 1 to make the score 15-14. But, the Lions again would make a run. The Mount went on a 9-3 run extending their advantage to 24-17. The Golden Tornadoes would add two more points before the Lions took set three 25-19.
In the fourth set, each team again traded leads. The Lions would first get ahead 9-5 before Geneva would rumble back making the score 10-12. But, kills from
Luke Dwire and
Ryan Bollhauer would give the Lions their lead back as The Mount went ahead 15-13. Each team then traded points as the lead shifted once again. But, the Lions would close out the set in dominant fashion taking the last 4 points including a kill from
Denzell Brown to give the Lions the 25-21 set four win.
In the fifth set, the Lions got working quickly. After surrendering the first two points, kills from
Ben Carmosino and Bollhauer lifted the Lions to a 5-2 lead. This time, the Lions never let Geneva snag their lead. 3 kills from Carmosino and another from Bollhauer gave the Lions hope as they took a 11-8 lead. Again, the Lions closed out the set in dominant fashion taking the last 4 points with a kill from Dwire and the final 3 from
Kyle Rees as the Lions took set five 15-8.
Ryan Bollhauer was impressive in the victory finishing with 17 kills while hitting .438.
Ben Carmosino was also impressive finishing with 9 kills while hitting .421.
Logan Essen led the way defensively finishing with a team high 21 digs followed by
Kyle Rees with 16 digs.
UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions are back in action on Friday, March 24th as they travel to Olivet, Michigan to take on the Comets of Olivet College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
