CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount softball team welcomed Denison to the MSJ Softball complex for their final non-conference tune up before opening HCAC play this weekend. The Lions opened with a 6-1 win, before dropping game two 10-6.
GAME ONE | MSJ 6 - Denison 1 | WP: C. Kemp (5-3), LP: B. Surbaugh (3-2)
The Lions got off to a good start in game one of the double-header, as
Casey Kemp had a four pitch inning to open the game. They then scored the games opening run in the bottom of the 1st inning.
Ali Lang opened up the game with a walk, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Kelsi Stevenson. She would then score after
Macy Cornelius singled on a bunt of her own, but Denison threw the ball away allowing Lang to advance.
Denison came back to answer in the top of the second with a solo homerun to right field. The Lions then answered with three in the bottom of the inning,
Maddie Kennedy and
Elizabeth Ivers opened the frame with back-to-back bombs.
Kaci Finchum then doubled, coming around to score on a single by
Emily McDonald.
They then added a run in the bottom of the third as
Courtney Keller hit her sixth homerun of the season. They would go on to add one more in the inning to push the lead to 6-1.
Kemp was outstanding in the circle, throwing a complete game allowing only four hits and one run while striking out six. The junior earned her fifth win of the season.

In game two it looked to be much of the same for the Lions as they quickly jumped ahead. In the bottom of the first Keller driller her second homerun of the day, this one a two-run blast.
Denison then answered with three in the top of the second to take the lead. The Lions quickly tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Kennedy tripled to right, and scored on a single by Ivers. The Big Red roared back to take control of the game scoring six runs over the next two innings.
The Mount added a pair in the bottom of the seventh on a homer by Stevenson, but were unable to mount a full comeback.

The Lions will open HCAC play on Sunday, welcoming the Franklin Grizzlies to town. The games are scheduled to get underway at 1:00 PM at the MSJ Softball Complex.
