CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, March 4th your Mount St. Joseph men's volleyball team welcomed the Celtics of Carlow to the Harrington Center. The Lions and Celtics faced off in a doubleheader with the Lions taking both matches. The Celtics provided little resistance as The Mount rolled to consecutive 3-0 victories.
Ryan Bollhauer led the way for the Lions and finished the day with 20 total kills while hitting a combined .537 across both matches.
In the Lions first match, they started off slow. The Celtics and Lions traded points before the Lions created a cushion. A pair of kills from
Kyle Rees gave The Mount a 16-13 lead and never looked back. The Lions maintained their lead and
Ben Carmosino sealed the first set with a kill winning 25-19.
In the second set, the Lions got off to a better start. The Mount picked up a quick 9-1 lead controlling their offensive attack. The Lions didn't stop there as they continued to build on their early lead. A pair of kills from
Jude Lewis helped the Lions extend their lead to 19-6. The Celtics fought back but, it wasn't enough to make a dent in the lead as the Lions took set 2, 25-12.
In the third set, The Lions again jumped out to an early lead. The Lions took the first 5 points of the set with kills from Rees and
Luke Dwire. The Mount continued to add to their lead with a kill from Bollhauer giving The Mount a 17-9 advantage. The Celtics would then trade points with the Lions before the Lions would pull away. The Lions closed out the set and match winning 25-17.
In the Lions second match of the day Bollhauer got the scoring started for the Lions. Bollhauer began the 1st set with a pair of kills before the Lions took a 7-4 advantage. The squads would trade points before going on a 6-point run. Kills from Bollhauer and Carmosino powered the Lions run as they took a commanding 16-8 lead. But, the Celtics would come rumbling back pulling with 3 bringing the score to 18-15. The Lions would quickly recover as Dwire led the way with a trio of kills. The Celtics would add 2 more points but the Lions took the first set 25-17.
In the second set the Lions worked quickly yet again. The Mount jumped out to a 5-1 lead with kills from Bollhauer and Rees. But, the Celtics provided more resistance in the second set. The Lions maintained their advantage but Carlow was not far behind holding their deficit within 2 for most of the set.
Jude Lewis found his rhythm late in the set, powering the Lions with 3 kills to give them the 25-21 victory.
In the third set, the Lions would start slow but, quickly adjusted. The Celtics held a 5-3 advantage early but a pair of kills from Lewis and Rees gave The Mount a 8-5 lead. Carlow answered right back tying the score at 9 before Dwire, Rees and Bollhauer all scored for the Lions gaining a 12-9 lead. The Lions didn't let this lead get away from them cruising to a 25-18 victory completing the 2-game sweep of Carlow.
Across both matches Bollhauer, Rees and Lewis all finished with 20 total kills. Bollhauer hit .537, Rees hit .300 and Lewis hit .249 leading the Lions to consecutive victories.
Luke Dwire was also impressive from the outside finishing with 13 kills while hitting .400.
Ben Carmosino dominated from the setter position registering 68 assists while tallying 9 kills and hitting .450.
UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions are back in action on Friday, March 10th when they begin MCVL play by welcoming the Griffins of Fontbonne to the Harrington Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
