DANVILLE, Ky. - On Friday, September 1st your Mount St. Joseph University Lions Women's Soccer team traveled to Centre College to kickoff the 2023 campaign.
After the first 15 minutes of play, the Lions were down 2 goals. However, shortly after, in the 21 st minute, Schneeman capitalized and scored for the Lions. The Lions didn't allow the Colonels to score anymore goals, but they ultimately fell short. In the first minute of play, the Colonels got a lucky goal in the back of the net resulting in a quick lead. The Lions defense then recuperated and held strong against the Colonel's high pressure.
Alyse Harris backed up the defense recording 5 saves in the first half. However, in the 15th minute, the Colonels broke through the Lions defense and secured their last goal for the night, making it 2-0. The Lions still held strong and got some great attacking pressure leading to many attacking plays. While pressuring the Colonels defense,
Haley Trittschuh got a great touch on a ball to
Mckenzie Schneeman who smashed it in the back of the net 21 minutes in.
For the remainder of the game, both teams stayed at a standstill in terms of goals scored, but both teams were battling for a win. Once again, the Lions defense held strong even though the Colonels had 8 shots with only 3 of them being on goal. Late in the second half, the Lions had a great offensive push lead by
Bailey Dotson,
Kerigan Pollard, and
Mary Litzinger, but,
unfortunately, a late call stopped their attack forward ending the night at 2-1.
