CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Wednesday, September 20
th, your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed Wilmington College to Schueler Field. The Quakers started off the game with a strong offensive push leading to a finish off of a corner kick assist in the 3
rd minute of the game. The Quakers held the 0-1 lead for the first half, but the Lions came out ready to turn the game around in the second half. 15 minutes into the second half, a hand ball in the Quaker's box lead to a Lion's penalty kick that
Mckenzie Schneeman slotted into the corner to secure a 1-1 equalizer.
Throughout the first half of the game, the Lions played a very defensive game with excellent performances from
Alena Schirripa,
Vivian Willis,
Molly Sheridan, and
Alyse Harris on the Lion's back line. After a quick start from the Quakers, they were able to capitalize on a corner kick within the opening 3 minutes of the game to gain an early 0-1 lead. However, the Lions held strong defensively and did not allow any more shots on goal for the remainder of the half.
After halftime, the Lions entered the second half with a newfound energy that led to a majority of pressure being issued on the Quaker's defensive half. The Lions had 11 shots in the second half which led to a goal from lead scorer,
Mckenzie Schneeman. After a scramble in the Quaker 18, a hand ball was called on the defensive team leading to a penalty kick opportunity for the Lions in order to tie up the game.
Mckenzie Schneeman stepped up to the table and slotted the ball into the bottom, right corner for a photo finish. The Lions had many more opportunities at goal including a great breakaway opportunity from Schneeman, but they were not able to find the back of the net again, ending in a 1-1 game.
