WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Sunday, September 24
th, your Mount St. Joseph Lions traveled to Otterbein University for the last game before conference play begins. The Lions fell early with Otterbein putting two goals in the back of the net within the opening 5 minutes of the half. However, the Lion's defense stayed strong and did not allow the Cardinals to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game, ending in a 2-0 loss.
After the Cardinals early offensive push, the Lion's tried to get some offensive pressure going, with
Mary Anhofer hitting a ball from about 25 yards out on frame, but the Cardinal goalkeeper was able to secure the shot.
Mckenzie Schneeman also had a shot that came from a deflection off of a defender in the 18 that soared in the back of the net, but the officials ultimately ruled the play offsides leading to the Lions going into halftime down 2 goals.
The Lions came out with some great offensive pressure in the second half with shots from
Layla Youtsler,
Kerigan Pollard, and
Alondra Sotelo, but they were not able to find the back of the net. Great defending from the Lions did not allow the Cardinals to score with some excellent goalkeeping skills from freshman
Megan Kallmeyer. Kallmeyer found herself in another penalty kick situation today with the Cardinal penalty kick taker shooting for the upper center of the goal, but Kallmeyer blocked it, not allowing the Cardinals to score in the second half.
