Jenkins & Mills Combine for 46 Points in Victory Over Anderson

ANDERSON, Indiana – On Saturday, January 13th your Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team traveled to Anderson University to take on the Ravens in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Mount looked dominant to start the game trailing just one time in the first half. Following halftime, the Lions turned to their Sophomore guard duo of Morgan Jenkins and Karlee Mills to extend their six-point lead. The duo combined for 46 points total points en route to the Lions 5th straight HCAC win taking down Anderson 80-55.

To begin play, the Lions set the tone going on a 12-4 run. Morgan Jenkins stuffed the stat sheet scoring 10 of the 12 points during the run with just over 5 minutes remaining in the quarter. The Ravens would answer back pulling within four with 3:18 left but a pair of free throws from Annabelle Williams and a three-pointer from Mills gave the Lions a 7-point advantage. Anderson answered again to end the quarter pulling within three making the score 20-17.   

To start the second, Anderson knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game at 20. Following the basket, each team traded buckets until the Ravens would jump in front by one with 3:20 left. To close out the half, the Lions found their hot hand again. The Mount would finish the last three minutes on a 9-2 run taking a 6-point, 35-29 lead at the break.  

Out of the locker room, the Lions looked poised to extend their lead. The Mount started the second half on a 15-2 run with four different Lions scoring. Following the run, the Lions extended their lead again with a pair of three-pointers from Jenkins and Amanda Lovejoy taking a 56-36 lead with 3:39 left in the third quarter. The Ravens knocked down a few shots to end the quarter but the Lions still held a commanding 58-42 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.   

To start the final quarter of play, the Lions continued to impress offensively with a 12-4 run. Mills lead the way scoring 11 of the 12 points including a trio of three-pointers to take a 70-46 lead. Both squads traded baskets following the run but the Ravens could never make a dent into the Lions lead. As the final whistle blew, the Lions captured their 5th straight HCAC victory taking down the Ravens of Anderson 80-55.

For the second straight game, Mills and Jenkins were both dominant in the victory for the Lions. Mills finished 9-15 from the field with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Jenkins added 22 points, 4 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists while shooting 3-4 from beyond the arc. Senior Chloe Jansen posted an impressive day on the boards grabbing 11 rebounds and scoring 4 points.  

UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions are back in action on Wednesday, January 17th when they welcome the defending NCAA DIII National Champions, the Pioneers of Transylvania to the Harrington Center for a HCAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7PM.
