LEXINGTON, Kentucky – The Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team hit the road Wednesday night to take on one of the HCAC's best teams the Transylvania Pioneers. The Lions fought hard and even had a shot in the air to go up by three with just over a minute to play. The Pioneers though made a three with :36 on the clock to secure the victory.
Transy got out to a quick lead, opening the game on a 12-3 run. From there the Lions began to chip away at the deficit, eventually tying the game at 18 then tying it again at 25. Transy went on a mini-run to close the half with a 35-29 advantage.
The second half would see the Pioneers maintain their lead, stretching that lead to a game-high 11 with 11:29 to play. The Mount went to work again chipping away at the lead, coming all the way back to even the score at 63 with 5:24 to go. The game was back-and-forth the rest of the way, with each team holding a small advantage at some point. Transy tied the score at 70 with 2:08 to play on a pair of free throws. Then with 1:03 to play
Dylan Hammonds had a good look from three-point range to put the Lions ahead, but it rimmed out. Transy then found the bottom of the net with a three-point attempt to take the lead for the last time.
Freshman
Dylan Hammonds put together a fantastic outing for coach Carrigan's Lions. His 20 point, 14 rebound double-double was his third double-double in the past two weeks.
Willard Cluxton (11) and
Jason Lavender (10) each scored in double figures.
UP NEXT: The Lions will hit the road on Saturday, heading to North Manchester, Indiana to take on the Spartans of Manchester. The game is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 PM
