Men's Basketball Falls at Home to Transylvania

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball hosted Transylvania on Wednesday night. The Lions got off to a good start in a back-and-forth first half that saw each team lead by as many as six points. The Lions held the first-half lead before Transy took over in the second, and despite a valiant effort in the games final minutes the Lions once again fell 64-60.

The Pioneers threw the first punch opening the game on a solid run, and taking a 6-point lead with 13:23 to play. From there the Lions would go on a spurt of their own to take their very own six-point lead with 5:04 to play in the half. They would maintain the edge for the remainder of the first half, carrying a 29-26 lead into the halftime break.

To open the second half Transy would go on a quick 8-2 run to pull back ahead at 34-31. At that point the game began to go back-and-forth again with the lead exchanging hands multiple times over the next few minutes. With 1:54 to play in the game Transy held on to a 6-point lead at 62-56, and both teams would go scoreless for nearly a minute and a half. A Matthew Menninger jumper with :26 seconds left drew the Lions withing four. They then were able to cause turnovers on consecutive inbounds passes, the first of which they got a bucket from Dylan Hammonds to cut the lead to two with :23 seconds to play. With :19 to play the Lions had the ball back down two, but the inbound pass was stolen by Transy who raced the other way and laid it in.

Luke Collinsworth led the way for the Lions with another double-double scoring 21-points and pulling down 10-rebounds. Matthew Menninger (12) and Dylan Hammonds (11) both scored in double-figures for the Lions.
