Football Shuts Out Anderson, Winning 49-0 on the Road

ANDERSON, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph University football team hit the road on Saturday, heading to take on the Anderson Ravens in an HCAC game. The Lions held the Ravens offense to just three rushing yards, dominating the line of scrimmage on the defensive side of the ball all game.

Anderson opened with the ball, and after picking up a first down they were forced to punt. That setup the first big play for Lions special teams as Jack Dawson blocked the punt and it was recovered by Dylan Wilson. Three plays later the Lions were on the board as Tyler Prather found Eli Aston on a 29-yard touchdown.

On the next Raven drive they were able to move the ball a bit, but their drive stalled out as they failed to convert a 4th-and-8 from the MSJ 43. After forcing the turnover on downs, the Lions offense went on a 9-play 51-yard touchdown drive. The drive was capped off on a 3-yard touchdown run by Jackson Gifford

The Lions defense would forced a three-and-out on the next Anderson possession. Aston got the Lions into good field position with a 25-yard punt return, and on the second play of the drive Prather found Ari Turner for a 29-yard touchdown. With a 21-0 lead entering the second quarter, Anderson would have their first sustained drive of the game. The Lions defense would get another stop as Brady Pierce intercepted a pass in the redzone, his first of the season. The Lions would score one more time in the first half, as Johnny Rager carried the ball in from 3-yards out.

Opening the second half, any Anderson hopes to get back into the game were quickly dispelled. Turner would take the second half kickoff 98-yards to the house for his first return touchdown of the season. The Mount would add two more touchdowns, first a 37-yard pass from Prather to Michael Hunkus, and a 3-yard run by KyHeim Montford.
