CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 77-66 win over Centre on Monday. The Lions were dominant most of the way and were able to stop a late rally by the Colonels enroute to the win.
Both
Jason Lavender and
Luke Collinsworth had double-doubles for Coach Carrigan's Lions. Lavender had 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Collinsworth added a game-high 17 points and 10 boards.
The Lions struggle offensively in the early going, 2 for 7 from three-point range over the first 4:09 of the game with the second three tying the game at 6. They would then go on a 9-0 run over the next 2 minutes to take control of the game. The run was bookended by a pair of layups from Collinsworth.
The lead would hover around 10 the rest of the first half, and they would head into the halftime break leading 39-26. The early second half was much of the same as the Lions extended their lead to 18 at the 16:04 mark. Centre would then mount a comeback attempt, cutting the Mount's lead down to just seven with 6:30 to play. The Mount would answer with another 12-0 run to push the lead out to a game-high 19 with 2:42 to play.
Matt Menninger scored double-figures for the second game in a row with an effecient 10 point effort.
Joe Brand was the final Lion in double-figures scoring 14 off the bench. As a team they shot 46.8 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three in the game.

The Lions will hit the road for the first time this season on Thursday as they head to Crawfordsville, Indiana to take on the Wabash Little Giants. The game is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 PM.
