Women's Volleyball Season Comes to a Close in HCAC Semi-Finals

LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team fell in the Heartland Collegiate Atheltic Conference semi-final match against Manchester on Saturday. The Lions jumped in front winning the first two sets, but eventually fell in a five set thriller. 

The Lions jumped out to the lead taking set one 25-18 and set two 25-20. Manchester would roar back to take the third and fourth sets 25-21 & 26-24. In that fourth set the Lions held the late lead at 24-22, but failed to convert a pair of match point opportunities. Manchester closed the set on a 4-0 run to secure the fourth set and force the winner-take-all fifth set. 

It was the 12th time this season the Lions played in a fifth set, coming into the match they were 8-3 on the season in five set matches. The set was back and forth through the early going as neither team led by more than one through the first 8 points. Tied at four all, the Mount took a two point lead with a two point run. They would push their lead out to a set-high four points at 10-6. Manchester once again answered outscoring the Mount 12-4 the rest of the way to secure the victory. 

The Mount was led offensively by Emma Sicking, Hannah Graves and Aubrey Mirand all of which had 10 kills in the match. Middles Sydney Doty and Hannah Justice combined for 10 kills in the match (5 each). Jasmine Butler dished out 29 assists in the match adding 11 digs. Graves led the way with 14 digs, Grace Wilking and Katie Rolf each added 13 digs.
