Late Murphy Jumper Lifts Lions Over Albion

ANGOLA, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team bounced back to get a much needed win over Albion in the second day of the Trine Holiday Classic.

Karlee Mills led a quartet of Lions in double-figures with a team-high 18 points on an efficient 7-of-10 effort from the field and 3-of-4 from three point range. Joining her in double-figures was Anyiah Murphy (16), Morgan Jenkins (13), Madison Drummonds (11), and Ella Stiver added 10 off the bench.

The first quarter of the game was tight with both teams leading, but neither having a lead of more than four points through the first 10 minutes. The Mount carried a four point lead into the second quarter, but opened that frame with an 8-0 run to push their lead to 12. Murphy buried a pair of three's in the run. They would go on to outscore the Britons 21-12 in the quarter, to take a 40-27 lead into the halftime break.

The third period was dominated by Albion, who outscored the Mount 21-8 to level the score heading into the fourth. The Mount led for much of the fourth but a five point run by Albion pushed them ahead by one with just :26 seconds to play. Coming out of a timeout the Lions worked the ball around and it fell to the hands of Murphy who was fouled as she hit a a go ahead jumper, she buried the free throw to give the Lions a two point lead. Albion would get the ball back with 7 seconds and a chance to tie or win on the games final shot, but a steal from Mills and another free throw from Murphy gave the Lions the victory.
