CINCINNATI, Ohio - Over the weekend, The Mount St. Joseph Men's Lacrosse team hosted the Heidelberg Student-Princes for their second home contest of the early season. Despite falling down early, the Lions would show good poise and strength to fight back into the contest in the second half. Four third period goals would bring the Lions back within two entering the fourth quarter but would fall short 9-5.
After great defense and goaltending from the Lions in the first quarter Heidelberg would only be able to take a 2-0 lead heading into the second. On a Man-UP opportunity midway through the second, the Lions would crack into the scoring column cutting the Student-Princes lead in half with a goal from Sophomore Defensemen
Chad McGinnis.
Although Heidelberg would be able to score goals of their own to end the second period, The Lions offensive game plan out of the half worked to perfection as they were able to push across four goals to cut the score to 5-7 at the end of three. Junior
Jacob Murray would be the catalysis in the quarter by earning a hat-trick scoring three third period goals. Defensemen
Austin Combs would also find the back of the net after scooping up a ground ball and taking it coast to coast for the finish. In the end, the Lions would be unable to push across any goals in the 4
th as they would fall short to the Student-Princes 9-5.
The Lions would be led by
Jacob Murray has he would score 3 goals on the afternoon and all three shots he took on the day.
Austin Combs would also have a respectable performance with a goal, 5 caused turnovers and four ground balls. The Senior
Dareon McGrone would lead the Lions in face-off wins going 5-7. In the goal,
Nicholas Jackson would go on saving 23 shots in all 60:00 minutes in goal.
The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday February 28
th as they host Trine University in their third straight at home to start the season. The game is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
