Auburndale, Florida – On early Wednesday morning the Mount St. Joseph Baseball team took the field in Auburndale, Florida to take on Suffolk University. After falling behind early, the Lions would work to battle back but, in the end, would fall to the Rams.
After falling behind early, the Lions would turn to Lefty arm
Ryan Caulfield in the fourth. Ryan dominated the lefty bats in the lineup for the Rams as he faced 8 batters in two innings of work allowing only two hits and striking out 2 batters. With two men on in his second inning of work, Caulfield was able to make a play after taking a line drive off the hip and making a fantastic play and get the batter out at first base. Along with Caulfield,
Brendan Hosler would have a stellar inning as well for the Lions entering the game in the top half of the ninth inning striking out two batters in the three, he faced to close out the final inning.
The offense for the Lions came in the 6
th and 7
th innings. In the 6
th, every ball off the bat for the Lions would be hit hard. With one out,
Andrew Harrison found his way on base after being hit by a pitch.
Brennan Martin then stepped up to the plate and smoked a ball up against the wall in right center for an RBI as Harrison scored from first. With Martin sitting on second, Senior
Kevin Schaaf would hit his first Home-Run of the young season with a shot to left field. In the 7
th the Lions would once again find a run. After drawing a pair of walks the Lions would sit first and second with no outs.
Jake Lawson would earn an RBI after reaching on a fielder's choice.
