Kemp Dominates in the Circle as Lions split with Transylvania

GAME ONE FINAL: MSJ 4 - Transylvania 2

On Sunday the Lions Softball Program travel on the road for an early afternoon double-header against the Transylvania Pioneers. The Lions entered the contest after a double-header slip on Saturday with the Manchester Spartans. The Pioneers are sitting atop the HCAC Softball standings.

In game one, the Lions ace Casey Kemp took the circle to set the tone for the Lions. After a slow start for the mount, the Pioneers would strike first in the bottom of the second inning. With the score still sitting at 1-0, The Mount would find a little two out magic in the top half of the 4th inning. With runners on first and second, Kemp would line a ball through the left side into left field as Sydney Hughbanks would beat the throw home to tie up the ballgame. Following the single, Freshman Avery Wiltermood would send a rocked down the left field line for a double plating two more runs for the Mount and growing their lead to 3-1. In the 5th, the Lions would find a way to tac on another run after the red hot hitting of Lauryn Miller continued with a double to right center scoring Hughbanks once again.

With a three-run lead in the bottom of the 5th, Transylvania would find a way to cut the deficit to two after they scored off a single back up the middle. In the final two innings of the game, Kemp would waste no time setting down the Pioneers in order earning the Lions an important game one victory 4-2.

In the Circle, Kemp would go all 7 innings allowing only 4 hits and one earned run while striking out three. The Lions would earn timely hits throughout most of the game as they would have three of their six total hits go for extra base hits.

In the second game of the afternoon the Lions would fall to the Pioneers. Transylvania would strike for 5 in the first inning which was a deficit the Lions couldn't find their way back from.

UP NEXT: The Lions Softball Program will be back in action on Saturday April 20th as they host the Anderson Ravens for another HCAC double-header. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM
