LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – This past weekend the Mount St. Joseph men's soccer team headed south to face Spalding University. The Lions would fall behind early, conceding just ten minutes into the contest, and, just six minutes after letting in the first goal, their deficit would grow. Mount St. Joe entered the break behind two goals to nil, but they were hopeful to turn the tide in the second half.
After, giving up a third goal just five minutes into the second period, the Lions finally started to find their groove and were able to answer back less than a minute later. Forward
Willis Johnson opened the scoring for the Mount, with the goal coming off a nice assist from
Joshua Agyemang. Shortly thereafter,
Willis Johnson tucked away a spot kick and notched his brace in just 72 total minutes of action. The Lions offense kept on the gas and recorded ten shots, five of them on target, in the second half alone.
Ultimately, their second half push would come up just short as the game went on to end in a 3-2 defeat for the Lions. They will look to build on an inspiring second half performance and try to continue this offensive momentum into the next match.
UP NEXT: MSJ come home to Schueler Field on Wednesday hoping to pick up their first win in the home opener. They will face the Capital Comets (0-3-3) who are also in search of their first win this season.
