CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph football team was dominant on Saturday, taking down previously unbeaten Albion 49-14 in the HCAC-MIAA crossover event. The Mount played a complete football game as the offense gained 568 total yards, while the defense held Albion to just 269 and forced a pair of interceptions.
The Mount going going quickly, taking the opening kickoff and going 80-yards in 12 plays to score the games first touchdown.
Jackson Gifford polished the drive off with a one-yard touchdown run. Albion took the ball on their first possession of the game and the moved the ball well early, but the defense of the Lions eventually forced a turnover on downs to get the ball back to the offense.
The offense took the ball back with good field position and scored their second touchdown of the day quickly. On just the fifth play of the drive

Kadin Pollard short and Pollard shook a few tackles and ran it in for a 34-yard score. On the next Albion drive the Lions defense forced a quick three-and-out to get the ball back to the offense.
On the third drive the Lions scored even quicker, as on the second play
Devin Holt raced in from 55-yards out for the score pushing the Lions ahead 21-0. They would eventually go into the half up 28-0, as Gifford finished the first-half scoring with another one-yard touchdown run.
Coming out of the half time break, Albion would take the football and the Lions defense forced a quick three-and-out. A 25-yard punt return by
Eli Aston would give the offense outstanding field position to start the drive. Just four plays later it would once again be Gifford carrying it in for his third touchdown run of the day, this time from 11-yards out.
After another quick three-and-out by the Britons, the Lions moved the ball into the redzone but were unsuccessful on a field goal attempt. Albion took the ball back but quickly returned it to the Lions, on their second play of the drive
Andrew Pierce came up with his first interception of the season.
Albion finally got on the board on their next drive, making the score 35-7. The Lions answered back on their next drive, as once again Prather found Pollard short over the middle, Pollard shook a pair of Briton defenders en route to a 66-yard score.
With the game all but over in the fourth quarter the Lions got the ball back with 13:31 to play, and proceeded to go on an 18-play 84 yard drive that lasted 11:29 seconds to salt the game away. That drive was capped off with an 8-yard touchdown run by
Johnny Rager.

It does not get easier for the Lions as they welcome the #7 ranked team in the nation to Cincinnati next Saturday. The Lions will welcome Wisconsin-River Falls to Schueler Field for a Noon kickoff, this will be the first matchup for these two programs.
