ANDERSON, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday, taking on Anderson. A late run got the Lions back into the game, but the comeback fell short eventually falling 69-66.
The first half of the game was back and forth, as neither squad was able to pull away. The action was tied multiple times and each team held a lead, neither was able to push their advantage out more than six points. The Lions had the ball with an opportunity to tie or take the lead on the last possession of the half, but would not get a shot off. A turnover by the Lions led to an Anderson layup to settle the first half score at 38-34.
Anderson pulled away early in the second half, as the Lions offense sputtered. With 15:20 to play the Ravens had stretched their lead to a game-high 15. Over the final 15:06 of action the Mount would outscore Anderson 29-17 to get back into the game. They would cut the deficit down to just one with :46 seconds to play. Anderson went 2-4 from the free throw line over the final 30 seconds, but the Lions were unable to get another bucket.Â
Luke Collinsworth led the way for the Lions with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double, leading a quartet of double-figure scorers.
