CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph football team closed out its 2025 home schedule in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, racing past Manchester University 48–20 at Schueler Field.
From the opening drive, the Lions controlled every phase of the game. Quarterback Jaxon Schreiber was nearly unstoppable through the air, leading an explosive offense that piled up 580 total yards. The junior signal-caller completed 22 of 29 passes for 407 yards and six touchdowns, carving up the Spartans' secondary with precision and poise.
Schreiber's favorite target, Eli Aston, turned in a career day. The standout wideout hauled in eight receptions for 233 yards and three touchdowns, consistently creating separation and making big plays downfield. Aston's third touchdown of the day gave him 18 for the season, a new single-season record for the Mount. Michael Hunkus added another strong performance, catching seven passes for 92 yards and two scores, while Steven Napier provided balance on the ground with 54 rushing yards on just eight carries.
After a quick Manchester touchdown early in the first quarter, the Lions answered with authority—scoring 28 straight points to seize control. By halftime, MSJ led 35–7 and never looked back. The offense continued to roll in the second half, adding another pair of touchdowns while the defense tightened up and forced key stops to keep the Spartans at bay.
On the defensive side, Daniel Jones led the charge with six tackles and a sack, while the entire unit limited Manchester to just two red-zone scores on four attempts. The Lions' pressure up front and strong coverage forced the Spartans into several long-yardage situations and kept the momentum squarely on the Mount's sideline.
When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard reflected a complete team effort—MSJ 48, Manchester 20. The victory moved the Lions to 5–4 overall and 4–1 in HCAC play, ensuring a winning record in conference action and momentum heading into the final week of the season.
The Lions will look to carry that energy into their regular-season finale next week, as they aim to close out the 2025 campaign on a high note. A win next Saturday at Rose-Hulman will qualify the Lions for the 2025 Opendorse Bowl Series.
