CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic, defeating Carlow 88-32 and Geneva 83-75.
Game One
The first game was all Mount from start to finish. Four Lions scored in double figures, led by Karlee Mills with 19 points, Morgan Jenkins with 14, Ali Winchester with 12, and Ava Harrigan with 11. The Mount shot over 44% from the floor and dished out 20 assists. The Lions' defense was outstanding, recording 19 steals and holding Carlow to an average of 8 points per quarter. The Mount also added 9 blocks on defense, rolling to an 88-32 victory.
Game Two
The second game was a tighter contest, with five lead changes throughout. Morgan Jenkins and Sam Price led the Mount offensively, scoring 20 and 19 points, respectively. Karlee Mills added 13, Ali Winchester 9, and Ella Stivers 6. The Lions dished out 19 assists and grabbed 38 rebounds.
The Mount entered halftime with a 38-37 lead. In the third quarter, Geneva took a 10-point lead at the 7:49 mark, carrying it into the fourth quarter. Sam Price hit a jump shot off a pass from Jordan Patterson to give the Lions the lead at the 8:21 mark of the fourth quarter. The Mount would not surrender the lead and went on to win 83-75, outscoring the Golden Tornadoes 45-38 in the second half.
