Lions Open HCAC Play With Home Win Over Bluffton

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team secured a hard-fought 53–48 win over Bluffton University on Wednesday night in HCAC action inside the Harrington Center.

The Lions jumped out to an early advantage and carried momentum into halftime before battling through a tight second half to seal the conference victory. MSJ held Bluffton to just 48 points while producing 32 points in the paint and 10 second-chance points on the night.

Hailey Guingrich led the way for the Lions with 17 points on efficient shooting while pulling down nine rebounds and adding a block. Sam Price added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Karlee Mills chipped in nine points, including a key three-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, the Lions limited Bluffton to just over 30 percent shooting from the field and capitalized on transition opportunities with eight fast-break points. MSJ showcased toughness on both ends of the floor in a physical conference matchup.

The win improves the Lions to 1-0 in HCAC play and 3-3 overall on the season.

MSJ returns to action Saturday when the Lions head to Lexington, Ky. to take on preseason HCAC favorite Transylvania.
