Men's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker at Transy

LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday, heading to take on the Transylvania Pioneers in an HCAC contest.

The first half was back and forth as the game was tied on four separate occasions and the lead exchanged hands seven times. Eventually the Pioneers would take a two-point lead into the intermission.

Transy pushed their lead out early in the second half, the Lions roared back to tie the game at 43 with 16:44 to play. An Elisha Jones layup with 4:29 to play gave the Lions a one point lead again, but once again but Transy answered. With 2:05 to go it was Jones again, this time burying a three to tie the game at 71.

Neither team would score on their next possession and the Lions would get the ball back with the score tied and the shot clock turned off. With just 9 seconds to play Michael Loftis took a baseline midrange jumper that just rimmed out. Transy would get fouled on the way to the rim with just a second to play, and would make both free throws to secure the win.

Loftis led the way with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Three other Lions were in double figures including Matthew Menninger (13) and Jones (12). Luke Collinsworth was the fourth as he chipped in a 13-point, 10 rebound double-double, his fifth double-double of the season.
