CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team opened the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament with a statement win, defeating Rose-Hulman 72-61 at the Harrington Center.
The Lions' offense was fueled by standout performances from
Madison Drummonds and
Morgan Jenkins, who dropped 17 and 16 points, respectively. Drummonds also dominated the boards, securing a double-double with 12 rebounds. The team capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting an impressive 75%.
Defensively, MSJ brought the intensity, racking up nine blocks and five steals, while forcing 15 turnovers from the Fightin' Engineers. The Lions caught fire in the second half, pouring in 45 points to seal the victory.
Next Up: With the first-round win secured, MSJ now turns its focus to the
HCAC semifinals. The Lions will take on
Hanover at
Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky on
February 28th. A win would propel them to the conference championship game, bringing them one step closer to the title.
