CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University men's volleyball team returned home on Wednesday to take on the Franklin College Grizzlies. The Lions were dominant in the first two sets, and were able to finish off a tough third set to win the match in straight sets.
The Lions were led offensively by
Carson Reed and
Ryan Bollhauer each who had double-digit kills in the match. Reed led the way with a team-high 12 and Bollhauer added 10. Bollhauer's 10 kills came on just 16 attempts with only a single error, good for a match-high .563 hitting percentage.
Other Lions who contributed offensively were
Jude Lewis (8 kills),
Roger Wilcox (5 kills),
Luke Dwire (4 kills) and
Ben Carmosino (3 kills) helping the Lions hit .278 as a team. Carmosino ran the Lions efficient offense flawlessly, dishing out 35 assists.
Defensively the Mount was led by libero
JJ Rennekamp who had a team-high 9 digs, Carmosino and Lewis each chipped in 6. They also registered 10 blocks with Bollhauer leading the way with 4.
Over the first two sets they outscored Franklin 50-33, but the third set was nip and tuck the whole way. In the third, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 5-1 lead, and led by as many as five at 8-3. The Mount went on a four point run behind a Bollhauer service run to take a 10-9 lead. From that point on neither team led by more than three and the score was tied as late as 18-18. The Mount pushed their advantage to two at 23-21 but Franklin would eventually cut it to 24-23, but a Bollhauer kill ended the match.
