LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team defeated Hanover 76-70 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals tonight. With the win, the Lions will advance to the Championship Game against the #1 seed, the Transylvania Pioneers. That game will be played in Lexington tomorrow, March 1st, at 3:00 PM.
In a tight contest, the three-point line was the difference for the Lions as they went 13-for-23 (56.5%) from deep. On the other end, they held Hanover to just 7-for-17 (41.2%) from three.
Anyiah Murphy was the standout for the Mount in this one, as the senior scored a career-high 29 points on an efficient 10-for-15 from the field, including 5-for-6 from three. She also contributed 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Karlee Mills added 18 points, and Morgan Jenkins recorded a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Hanover cut the Mount's advantage to just three with a minute and thirty-four seconds to play. However, the Lions were able to go 7-for-8 from the free-throw line the rest of the way to hold off the Panthers.
With the win, the Lions advance to the HCAC Finals tomorrow, where they will take on the #1 seed and host, the Transylvania Pioneers, at 3:00 PM from the Beck Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
