Young's Six Goal Effort Leads Lions Over Bethany

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph women's lacrosse team got their first win of the 2025 season on Monday, beating Bethany 12-10.

Bethany scored the first goal of the game just 23 seconds into the match, but the Lions answered to tie the score. Alyssa Young took a free position shot with 11:08 to play in the first and found the back of the net to even the score. Bethany scored two unanswered goals late in the quarter to take a 3-1 lead into the second.

In the second quarter the Lions would do a good job of not allowing Bethany to extend their lead. The Mount cut it to 3-2 with Abby Cole finding the back of the net. Bethany twice extended their advantage back to two, but each time the Mount answered. Back-to-back goals from Erika Borges and Jordan Wetmore helped the Lions tie the score at five with 3:31 to play. Each team was scoreless over the final 3:31 of the half, going into the halftime break tied.

Early in the third the Lions took their first lead of the contest, Young once again found the back of the net this time on an assist from Cole. The action continued to be tight, but Bethany outscored the Mount 3-2 in the period to take an 8-7 lead into the fourth.

To open the fourth the Mount scored a pair of quick goals to regain the lead, Bethany would come back to tie the score at nine but would never lead again. Over the final 6:56 of action they would outscore Bethany 3-1, with goals coming from Young, Cole and Wetmore. During that final run goalie Alyssa Carlson made a pair of outstanding saves to help secure the 12-10 win.
