AUBURNDALE, Florida - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team got their seventh win in eight games on Wednesday. The Lions held Moravian to just 3 hits will striking out 17 Greyhounds in the game.
It was
Sam Huston who got the call to start the game on the hill. The junior lefthander made just one mistake in the game allowing a first inning homerun. Other than that he pitched 5.0 innings of 2 hit, 1 run baseball while striking out 8. He earned his first win of the season in the game.
The Lions got the scoring started in the top of the first inning,
Anton Mere reached on an error to get it started. An out later he stole second base and then scored on an
Ethan Mason double.
Moravian tied it in the bottom of the inning on that solo homerun, but the Lions answered with five in the second. They did all of their damage in the inning after making two outs.
Cole Carrigan singled and stole second, he would score on an
Austin Buckle double. Mere drove in Buckle with a single. Mere scored after Moravian was unable to handle a grounder from
Jordan Harley.
Andrew Harrison walked and Mason drilled a two-run double into left to end the scoring.
The Mount played add on in the fourth and sixth, adding a single run in each inning.
In the sixth inning Huston gave way to sophomore right hander
Jackson Bucks. Bucks pitched the sixth and seventh while allowing only a single hit and striking out four.
Jeff Kist finished the game on the mound, throwing two innings of no-hit ball while striking out five.
A pair of Lions had four hits in the game, Mason was 4-for-5 with a run scored and 3 RBI, and
Cole Carrigan was 4-for-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
