Baseball Wins 10-4, Finish Spring Break Trip

AUBURNDALE, Florida - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team wrapped up their 2025 trip the RussMatt Invitational, with a 10-4 win over Fitchburg State on Saturday. With the win the Lions move to 9-2 on the season and a 7-1 spring break trip.

The Mount sent sophomore right-hander Matt Frye to the mound to start the game. Frye allowed four earned runs over five innings while striking out five to earn the win. Three relievers combined to throw four scoreless innings, Josh Issacs threw two shutout innings, Zach deSylva and Evan Webb each threw one.

The Lions offense got started in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs. Anton Mere led off with a single up the middle then quickly stole second base. An out later he would steal third, and scored on an RBI groundout from Ethan Mason. Jackson Gutzwiller hit a two-out double into left center and scored on an RBI single by Sean Moore

They added five more in the bottom of the second inning. Sean Gibson led off with a double down the right field line, and moved to third on a bunt hit from Austin Buckle. Mere was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Jordan Harley followed with a two-run single into left. Mason got his second RBI of the game with a single through the left side scoring Mere. Gutzwiller then singled to right field to score Harley. Mason would score on a passed ball, before a pair of walks loaded the bases again. The final run came when Gutzwiller scored on a double play ball off the bat of Jake Sanders
