Lions Sweep Anderson Ravens

Anderson, Indiana – The Mount St. Joseph University softball team hit the road to face Anderson University for their second HCAC doubleheader of the weekend. Riding high after a dominant sweep over Franklin, the Lions kept the momentum rolling and completed another sweep—this time over the Ravens—with final scores of 15-1 and 8-1.

Game One | MSJ 15 – AU 1 (5 innings)
The Lions wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the top of the first and continuing to apply pressure with runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. MSJ's offense found a rhythm, stringing together singles and capitalizing on multiple Anderson miscues in the field.

Avery Wiltermood recorded the only double of the game, but it was aggressive base running that truly set the tone. Macy Cornelius, Lauryn Miller, Skylar Fletcher, Sydney Hughbanks, Alayna Flynn, and Wiltermood all swiped bags to keep the Ravens on their heels.

Freshman Courtney Hankenhoff delivered a standout performance in the circle, tossing a complete five-inning game. She allowed just five hits, one run, and one walk while striking out two. Her effort earned her second win of the season in dominant fashion.

Game Two | MSJ 8 – AU 1
The second game started a bit slower for the Lions. Anderson struck first with a run in the bottom of the second, but MSJ responded in a big way during the fourth inning, erupting for seven runs. This offensive burst came from a combination of aggressive base running and timely hitting.

Key doubles from Cornelius, Emily McDonald, and Mackinley Lawson sparked the offense, while sacrifice flies from Miller and Shelby Rakosky helped extend the lead.

Coach Goderwis turned to a pair of freshmen in the circle for game two. Emily Schottelkotte got the start, pitching three innings and allowing four hits, one run, and a walk across 13 batters. Clare Lopeman came in for relief and was nearly untouchable, going four innings without giving up a run or walk, surrendering just one hit.

Next Up: The Lions will continue HCAC play on Tuesday, April 15th, traveling to Bluffton for another conference doubleheader.
