BATAVIA, Ohio - The Mount baseball team entered Sunday's action looking for a huge series win over the Pioneers of Transylvania. Behind a fantastic pitching performance and timely hitting the Lions got a much needed 11th conference victory.
Sophomore
Jackson Bucks took the ball to start the game and was very good in this one. He pitched the front 7.0 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs while striking out 4.
Transy opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, while the Lions were held scoreless through the front five innings. Transy added one in the fifth and one in the sixth, but Bucks did well to keep Transy from putting together a big inning.
The Lions scoreless inning streak ended at 14 as the scored one in the bottom of the sixth.
Jordan Harley led off the inning with a walk and two outs later scored on an RBI single from
Brennan Martin.
The Mount scored one more in the bottom of the seventh to draw within one.
Andrew Clements led off with a double and moved to third in a single from
Jackson Gutzwiller.
Anton Mere then lifted a sacrifice fly into right field to score Gutzwiller.
They then added two in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead.
Andrew Harrison was hit by a pitch to open the inning, he was then lifted for a pinch runner in the form of
AJ Meyer. Meyer then stole second base, Jake Sander followed with a walk and Martin was hit by pitch to load the bases.
Ethan Mason then delivered one of the biggest base hits of the season for the Lions, driving in two.
Josh Issacs pitched the eighth allowing only a single hit, and earned the win in the ballgame.
Ryan Caulfield pitched a perfect ninth to earn his third save of the season.

The Lions will have a midweek non-conference double-header on the road at Wilmington, those games are scheduled to get underway at 2:00 PM on Wednesday.
