GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Mount St. Joseph men's volleyball team wrapped up their season on a high note Saturday, securing a four-set victory over Calvin University on the road.
After a slow start in the opening set, falling 19-25, the Lions regrouped and responded with determination. Despite only tallying seven kills to Calvin's 12 in the first frame, MSJ found their rhythm and stormed back to claim the next three sets: 25-20, 25-22, and 25-22.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle early on until key kills from
Ryan Bollhauer and
Carson Reed gave the Lions a spark. Their momentum forced a Calvin attack error, opening up a three-point lead that MSJ capitalized on to take control of the set.
From there, the Lions continued to apply pressure, holding off a persistent Calvin squad to secure the win. MSJ totaled 53 kills, seven service aces, and four blocks across the match – a balanced effort that propelled them to victory.
Although the Lions narrowly missed out on a spot in the MCVL Tournament, with only the top four teams advancing, they closed the season on a positive note. Finishing with a final record of 11-15, head coach Eric Santiago Garcia remains optimistic as he looks to continue building the program's foundation and momentum into next season.
