LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Mount St. Joseph softball team won their opening game of the 2025 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships on Thursday, taking down the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers in a nine inning thriller!
The Lions used a pair of pitchers in the game,
Mollie Sharp got the start and pitched the front 4.2 innings allowing four hits and a single run while striking out three. With two-outs in the top of the fifth she gave way to
Lesleigh Reimers who finished the game going the final 4.1 innings. Remeirs was fantastic, earning her 11th win of the season allowing only a single hit.Â
Rose took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring their lone run of the game on a throwing error.
The Lions answered to tie the game in the bottom of the inning,
Shelby Rakosky got the inning started with a one-out double to left center. Kylie Hankenhof singled into right field to score Rakosky and tie the game.Â
The teams then went scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning. Mack Lawson led off the inning and was hit by pitch was lifted for a pinch-runner. The pinch runner was then picked off, an out later
Sydney Hughbanks singled into right and
Avery Wiltermood walked. Lauren Miller was then called on to pinch hit for
Alayna Flynn and drilled a walk-off single to left center field.
