CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Mount St. Joseph University women's soccer team fought tough on Wednesday night, earning a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Asbury University.
The Lions faced some early challenges, with the Eagles applying pressure right from the start. In the 25th minute, Asbury took the lead, finding the back of the net to go up 1-0. Despite the early setback, Mount St. Joseph regrouped and entered halftime trailing by a single goal.
Coming out strong in the second half, the Lions quickly responded when freshman Preslee Rugg scored her first goal as a Lion, leveling the match at 1-1. MSJ continued to press, recording 10 shots and earning five corner kicks in the second period.
In the 85th minute, goalkeeper Megan Kallmeyer made a crucial save to preserve the 1-1 scoreline, while Alena Schirripa nearly broke the deadlock in the 87th minute, but her shot was saved by the Eagles' goalkeeper.
