Lions Falter Late; Fall At Home to Anderson

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team jumped out to a strong start but could not withstand a late rally, falling 61-58 to Anderson on Saturday. The loss marked the second consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference setback for the Lions.

Mount St. Joseph controlled the early action, building a 10-point advantage with 3:34 remaining in the opening quarter. Anderson responded with a 6-2 run to close the period, trimming the deficit to 17-11 heading into the second.

The Lions appeared to seize momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Ravens 15-6 to take a commanding 32-17 lead into halftime.

Mount St. Joseph extended its advantage to a game-high 19 points midway through the third quarter, but offensive struggles followed. Anderson flipped the game by outscoring the Lions 35-13 over the final 14:14 of play.

The Ravens tied the contest at 51-51 with 5:24 remaining, marking the first tie since the opening tip, and then took their first lead on the ensuing possession. Mount St. Joseph answered twice to knot the score again, but was unable to regain the lead down the stretch.

Karlee Mills paced the Lions with 13 points, while Morgan Jenkins added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Bella Crawford provided a spark off the bench with nine points for head coach Justin Elston's squad.
