CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team defeated Manchester University on Saturday afternoon at the Harrington Center, 90–65.
Manchester came out strong early and held an 18–15 lead ten minutes into the game. The Mount responded with strong shooting from beyond the arc, as Cooper Ollis and Joe Brand knocked down two threes each and Griffen Derry added three of his own. From 10:27 to 7:41, the Lions went on a 16–0 run led by Derry's 9 points. Derry sparked the Mount with 12 first-half points, shooting 4-for-5 from three-point range, as the Lions took a 44–34 lead into halftime.
The Mount stayed hot to open the second half. In the first four minutes, Cooper Ollis hit two three-pointers, Michael Loftis added two jumpers, and Matthew Menninger knocked down a jumper to extend the Lions' lead to 17. Manchester cut the deficit to 9 at the 8:31 mark, but from there it was all Mount. Joe Brand, Cooper Ollis, and Jason Lavender each hit from beyond the arc as the Lions pulled away for the 90–65 victory.
The Mount was led by Cooper Ollis, who scored a career-high 28 points while shooting 6-for-10 from three. Jason Lavender, Joe Brand, and Griffen Derry each added 12 points and 4 rebounds.
