Lions Battle to 1-1 Draw Against Marietta

MARIETTA, OHIO — The Mount St. Joseph University women's soccer team tied Marietta College 1-1 in its final nonconference match of the season on the road Wednesday afternoon, moving its record to 4-2-2.

The Mount offense came out strong, scoring within the first 10 minutes of the match. Preslee Rugg found the back of the net in the ninth minute, giving the Lions an early 1-0 lead. The offense continued to create opportunities, forcing the Marietta goalkeeper to make six saves on 12 first-half shots while also earning five corner kicks. The defense allowed the Pioneers just five shots, with only two being on goal, both of which Mount goalkeeper Megan Kallmeyer saved. The Lions went into halftime leading 1-0.

Marietta came out looking to knot the score, forcing Mount goalkeeper Megan Kallmeyer to make four saves within the first 25 minutes of the second half. Kaitlyn Thomas and Gabrielle Eagan both had shots that nearly doubled the Lions' lead. In the 78th minute, the Pioneers scored to tie the match at 1-1, and the teams would go on to finish in a 1-1 draw.

The Mount finishes nonconference play with a 3-2-2 record.

UP NEXT: The Mount will host Franklin College at Schueler Field on Saturday, October 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
