Women's Basketball Drops Final Regular Season Game, Enters HCAC Tournament as #5 Seed

BEREA, Kentucky — On Wednesday evening, the Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team fought hard on the road but struggled to find offensive consistency in a 61–41 conference loss at Berea College.

The game got off to a difficult start for the Lions, as Berea raced to a significant lead in the first quarter. Mount St. Joseph battled through a tough shooting night, working to settle into their offensive sets, but the early deficit proved difficult to overcome. By halftime, MSJ trailed and continued to play from behind in the second half.

Despite the loss, senior guard Morgan Jenkins was a bright spot for the Lions, leading the team in scoring with. Freshman Bella Crawford provided energy with secondary scoring, finishing the game with 8 points. Sam Price was unable to get going offensively but pitched in five rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocks. 

Defensively, the Lions made it difficult for Berea to score easy points at times, but where unable to chip away at the lead. Berea maintained control through balanced scoring and effective offensive execution throughout the game.

By the final buzzer, Berea had secured the victory, handing Mount St. Joseph a tough conference defeat. The Lions will look to regroup and refine their offensive production as they continue Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

These two squads will see each other again on Saturday, as the Lions who earned the #5 seed in the HCAC tournament will hit the road back to Berea to take on the #4 seeded Mountaineers in their opening round game.
