MONTGOMERY, Alabama - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team was in Montgomery, Alabama to take on East Texas Baptist and Adrian College on Saturday. The Lions led late in both games before dropping a pair of close games against really good baseball teams.
GAME ONE | ETB 13 - MSJ 10
The Lions sent junior right-hander
Josh Isaacs to the mound to start the game, and for the front four innings of his outing he was outstanding. In the top of the first he allowed a single run before a pair of strikeouts ended the inning. He would keep the Tigers of the scoreboard in the next three innings.
The Lions were scoreless until the third when the tied the game without a hit.
Will Record led off with a walk and a stolen base, he was advanced to third on a sac bunt from
AJ Meyer and scored on a sac fly from
Austin Buckle to tie the game at one.
They would then explode for five in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Ethan Mason led off with a walk,
Brennan Martin followed with a single into right field to get it started.
Zac Clow then doubled into right center to drive in Mason, and
Andrew Clements drilled a two-run single up the middle. After a
Jackson Gutzwiller walk, Record and Buckle each drove in a run to push the Lions ahead 6-1.
In the fifth Issacs walked the leadoff hitter, got a pair of strikeouts before a two-out walk and then a two-out three-run homer ended his day. That really got the ETB offense going as they would go on to score two in the sixth, four in the seventh, 2 in the eighth and one in the ninth to secure the 13-10 win.
GAME TWO | Adrian 8 - MSJ 7
In the Lions game vs. Adrian, they scored three in the top of the first inning.
Jordan Harley singled with one out, Mason then doubled and Martin walked to load the bases. Each runner would advance on a wild pitch scoring the first run of the game. The second run scored on a Clow groundout, and the third scored on a Clements single.
Nolan Miller went to the mound to start the game for the Lions. Adrian scored four times in the first but all of them would go down as unearned as an error should have ended the inning.
Neither team scored in the second or third inning, the Lions then scored four in the fourth inning with Mason delivering a two-run base hit, Clow singled into left for another RBI and Clements delivered an RBI single.
Adrian answered in the bottom with a pair of runs off of Miller, he gave way to
Zach deSylva with the bases loaded and one out in the inning. Zach would induce a huge 6-4-3 double play to strand the bases loaded. He would throw 4.2 innings of relief allowing 4 hits and only one unearned run while striking out five.
Adrian scored once in the seventh to tie the game at seven, the would then score on in the bottom of the ninth to secure the walk-off win.
