NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Mount St. Joseph University men's volleyball team turned in a strong all-around performance Monday evening, defeating Yeshiva University in straight sets during non-conference action in New York, New York.
MATCH ONE: MSJ 3 – YESHIVA 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-13)
The Lions came out with strong energy in the opening set, quickly establishing control through efficient offense and steady defense. Mount St. Joseph built an early lead and maintained the advantage throughout the frame, closing out the set 25-13. Sophomore Carson Reed led the offensive effort, recording 10 kills on 18 total attempts while also adding two service aces to help keep pressure on the Yeshiva defense.
Mount St. Joseph continued its momentum into the second set, stringing together key scoring runs behind consistent serving and balanced attacking. The Lions controlled the pace for much of the set and held off a brief Yeshiva push late before securing the 25-18 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Junior Roger Wilcox played a major role at the net, finishing the night with nine kills on just 11 swings in an efficient offensive outing.
The Lions carried that rhythm into the third set, once again jumping out to an early lead and maintaining control throughout. Strong ball distribution and steady defensive play allowed Mount St. Joseph to dictate the tempo as they closed the set 25-13 to complete the sweep.
Freshman Will Croft and sophomore Brayden Bass split time directing the offense, combining for 38 assists while effectively spreading the ball among multiple attackers. Defensively, senior Jude Lewis anchored the back row with 10 digs, while sophomore Sean Murray added seven digs to help the Lions sustain rallies and remain in system.
UP NEXT: Mount St. Joseph continues its road trip Tuesday, March 10, traveling to face The College at Old Westbury in Old Westbury, New York. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. as the Lions look to build on Monday's momentum.
