Baseball Falls 9-4 to Western New England

DAVENPORT, Florida - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team took to the field on Monday on their second day at the RussMatt Invitational. Today they squared off with the Western New England Golden Bears at the North East Regional Park in Davenport, Florida. 

The Lions sent Josh Issacs to the mound to start the game, the junior had a perfect first with a pair of strikeouts. In the bottom of the inning Austin Buckle led off with a single up the middle, quickly stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would score on an RBI infield single by Will Record

In the top of the second the Golden Bears answered with a four spot, coming on a grand slam homerun. The would add two more in the top of the third to go ahead 6-1. In the bottom of the inning the Lions threatened, Record led off with a triple, Ethan Mason followeed with a walk but the next three Lions were retired in order to end the threat. 

Jeeff Kist came on out of the bullpen in the fourth inning, he would go 4.2 innings allowing only 2 hits while striking out 3. The outing gave the Lions an opportunity to get back into the game but the offense struggled to get on track. 

They would score twice in the bottom of the sixth to gut the deficit to 7-3. Nicholas Pric led off the inning with a walk, moved to seecond on an AJ Meyer single into right. An out later Will Record drilled a two-run single into centerfield. 

The Lions were unable to get any closer, eventually falling 9-4.

UP NEXT: The Mount will hav an off day tomorrow before squaring off with Keystone College on Wednesday afternoon. That game is scheduled to get underway at 1:30PM at the North East Regional Park.
