OLIVET, Michigan - The Mount St. Joseph men's volleyball team got their first 2026 MCVL win of the season on Friday, a straight sets win on the road at Olivet.
The Lions jumped out to a early lead in the first set and never trailed in the set, near the end of the set they led 24-18. Olivet went on a four point run to draw within three, but after a time out from Coach Spinney the Lions got a big kill from
Will Croft to secure the set.
In set two it was much of the same through the early and middle portions, Olivet finally gained their first lead of the match at 17-16 in the second set. From there the Mount went on a six point scoring run with
Brayden Bass at the service line to pull ahead 22-17. They would eventually win the set 25-20 to take control of the match.
The third and decisive set started with a four point run by Olivet giving them their largest lead of the match. They would maintain the lead for much of the early portions of the set, but the Lions began chipping away at it. The Mount would come back to tie it at 11 all, from there the set would be tied seven different times and the lead would exchange hands seven times. The Lions had match point at 24-23 but Olivet got the kill to tie the score at 24, The Lions would secure the next two points to win 26-24.
Carson Reed and
Roger Wilcox led the way offensively in the match for the Lions, each registering 10 kills. Wilcox hit .643 in the match and Reed a very respectable .500.
Brayden Bass dished out 27 assists,
Will Croft dished out 11. Reed led the way with 12 digs.
On day two of the trip the Lions headed to take on the Adrian Bulldogs, they would drop the second match of the weekend in straight sets.
