HANOVER, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team was on the road again on Sunday, taking on the Hanover Panthers in the final game of a three-game HCAC series. The Lions were looking to avoid a sweep and get back on the winning side.
The Lions got off on the right foot in this one,
Jordan Harley led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball.
Brennan Martin followed with a walk of his own, with
Ethan Mason at the plate another passed ball allowed Harley to score and Martin to move to third. A one out double from
Austin Buckle pushed Martin across to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.Â
Jackson Bucks got the start on the hill for the Lions, the right-hander was good through the front four innings keeping the Panthers off the scoreboard. He ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing the Panthers to score twice with no outs. He was lifted for
Carson Taulbee who was outstanding across three innings of relieve earning the win.Â
 Offensively the Lions added three in the third, with Mason and
Zac Clow each delivering RBIs in the inning. They got one more in the fourth despite not registering a hit, to lead 6-0 heading into the fifth.Â
With Hanover trying to climb back into the game they added on more insurance run in the eighth inning. Harley walked with one out, Martin followed with a double into left field. Harley was called out attempting to score on a passed ball. Martin would score on an RBI base-hit into left field from Mason.Â
In the bottom of the eighth
Daniel Brayton relieved Taulbee and closed the door on any Hanover comeback attempt. He pitched the final two innings allowing only a single hit while securing five of the six batters he retired via strikeout.Â
