BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team was on the road on Friday, heading to take on the Bluffton Beavers in an HCAC double-header. The Lions took game one 3-2 and then won game two 14-6.
Game One
The Mount won game one behind a dominant pitching performance from
Nolan Miller, the junior right-hander threw a complete game allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out six, earning his third win of the season.
Bluffton led the game 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning, but the Lions scored three times to take the lead and it was all Miller needed. In the inning
Zac Clow hit a two-out two-run double to left center, and
AJ Meyer followed with an RBI single of his own.
As a team the Mount registered 13 hits in the game Meyer was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game while
Ethan Mason,
Jackson Gutzwiller,
Will Record and Clow all added two hits.
Game Two
The Lions offense was the story in game two as the team scored a season-high 14 runs on 15 hits.
Heading into the fourth inning the Mount trailed 4-3, they would score three times in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. Mason delivered a two run single and
Kaden Snodgrass drove in one with a single to right.
Bluffton came back to tie the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions then exploded for eight in the top of the 7th to put the game away.
Will Record,
Jordan Harley,
Brennan Martin and Mason each registered an RBI in the frame and Clow drove in three with a bases clearing triple.
On the Mound
Jackson Bucks started,
Zach deSylva earned the win with 3.0 effective innings in the middle of the game and
Jeff Kist and
Matt Frye combined to hold Bluffton scoreless in the 8th and 9th to secure the win.
Of the 15 hits for the Lions,
Austin Buckle, Mason, Snodgrass, Clow and
Will Record each registered a pair of hits. Mason led the way driving in four runs, while Martin and Clow each drove in three in the game.

The Lions will be off on Saturday before their second double-header of the weekend on Sunday as they welcome the Manchester Spartans to Midland Field.
