CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Mount St. Joseph University men's soccer team defeated Marietta College 2-1 after a two-hour rain delay at Schueler Field Saturday evening, bringing their record to 3-0-1.
The two-hour rain delay didn't slow down the Lions, as they scored within the first ten minutes of the match. Brennan Lewis sent a pass to Brady Diedenhofer, who found the back of the net to put the Mount ahead 1-0. The offense kept rolling in the 21st minute when Presley Boyle scored off a pass from Diedenhofer, putting the Lions ahead 2-0. At the 27-minute mark, Marietta cut the Mount's lead in half, making it 2-1, which the teams would take into halftime.
The second half was a very physical battle that went back and forth. The Pioneers continued to put pressure on the Lions' defense throughout the half, but Marietta couldn't convert as the Mount went on to win 2-1. Lions goalkeeper Carson Sabers made three saves in the second half, helping the Mount secure the victory.
UP NEXT: The Mount will be back at home at Schueler Field, where they will take on Capital University on Tuesday, September 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
