Coach Maisie Elston is entering her fourth season as the head women’s basketball coach at Mount St. Joseph University and her first as the Senior Woman Administrator.
In just three years leading the Lions, she has established herself as one of the rising young coaches in Division III basketball. Elston has compiled a 56–25 overall record, highlighted by three HCAC Tournament appearances and a run to the HCAC Finals two consecutive years. On February 1, 2025, in a win over Manchester, she recorded her 50th career victory in only her 73rd game as a head coach. In 2023–24, Elston guided the Lions to the conference championship game against #2-ranked Transylvania, who went on to win the NCAA DIII National Championship.
In addition to her collegiate coaching success, Elston also served as assistant coach for the Great Britain National Team that competed at the U20 EuroBasket in Miskolc, Hungary.
Before arriving at The Mount, Elston spent one season as an assistant coach at Indiana University East following five years at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Earlham College. At Earlham, she served as an assistant coach before being elevated to interim head coach in February 2021. During her tenure, she was deeply involved in every aspect of program management including; recruiting, scouting, scheduling, practice planning, player development, and strength and conditioning. Beyond the court, she was an advocate for diversity and inclusion, serving on Earlham’s Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, helping craft a transgender policy for athletics, and co-founding the Queer Athletes and Allies Collective.
A native of London, England, Elston came to the United States to play collegiately at Houston Christian University and also competed internationally for Great Britain, representing her country in both the U18 and U20 European Championships.
Elston is an active member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and was honored on the organization’s prestigious Thirty Under Thirty list, which recognizes up-and-coming coaching talent across the nation.
